Ernest William Hornung (1866-1921) was educated at Uppingham School and married to Conan Doyle's sister, Connie. He spent two years in Australia as a private tutor and worked briefly as a Clerk in London before devoting his time to writing. He wrote several novels but his fame rests upon his creation of Raffles. Richard Lancelyn Green has edited several collections of Sherlock Holmes stories. He l ives in London.
