• 1979: Behzad, a young communist revolutionary, fights for a new order in Tehran after the Shah’s expulsion and falls in love with the courageous Nahid.

• 1989: Now living as refugees in West Germany, Behzad and Nahid spend their days glued to the radio, desperate for news of the friends they left behind.

• 1999: Their daughter, Laleh, returns to Iran for the first time, discovering a Tehran that clashes with her parents’ stories and her own hazy childhood memories.

• 2009: As the Green Revolution ignites in Iran, their son Mo—now a young man in Germany—is forced to confront his family’s history of resistance.

The novel is a powerful testament to how hope and the revolutionary spirit endure in the face of tyranny, and how the “ghosts” of a homeland continue to haunt those forced to leave it.
