Information about this book

Description

While you may have been looking for more modern architectural puzzles, this title is actually a classic “faceless corpse” mystery by the master of the genre, Seishi Yokomizo. It features his most famous creation, the scruffy and brilliant detective Kosuke Kindaichi.

Set in 1947 Tokyo—a city still scarred by wartime bombing—the story begins with a nightmarish discovery in the “Pink Labyrinth,” a shady neighborhood of ruins and brothels. A patrolling policeman catches a young monk digging in the backyard of the Black Cat Café. In the shallow grave lies a woman with a disfigured face and the body of a black cat. The mystery deepens when the café’s own black cat mascot is found to be alive and well. Kindaichi must navigate a web of post-war desperation, hidden identities, and long-buried secrets to find out who the victim was and why a cat had to die with her.
